BCI Awards 2017

This week, team AWD will be getting suited and booted to attend the British Construction Industry Awards at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on Wednesday 12^th October. Alan White Design have been shortlisted as finalists in the Temporary Works category for our temporary propping system design for the V&A Museum of Design Dundee.

This is the second year in a row AWD have been shortlisted for this prestigious award, having been recognised last year for our Suspended Access Platform design for CenterParcs in Longleat.

The BCI Awards recognise those companies and individuals at the top their profession when it comes to engineering in the UK, and among the nominees are some of the biggest names and brightest minds from across the construction and engineering industries. As an SME with 9 employees, we are incredibly proud that our work for V&A Dundee has been recognised among the top temporary works designs in the UK last year, which is testament to the skill and creativity of our temporary works designers, and a sterling example of the innovation we offer our clients.

For V&A Dundee, our temporary works package provided a comprehensive solution to the complex challenge of supporting the 2240m³ of curved concrete walls in the temporary condition while the upper floors and roof of the 11343 m² building were installed, a task which took more than a year and a half. However, our design delivered more than just a temporary works solution – by utilising as many proprietary products as possible, we were able to reduce waste and environmental pollution, eliminate the time required to source bespoke materials and keep costs low for our client, Careys Plc. We are delighted that our unique and holistic approach to temporary works design has been recognised by the esteemed judging panel.

For us, the awards ceremony on Wednesday night is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our many successes over the last 12 months and take stock of how much we have grown over the past few years, both in size and reputation.
