This week we were delighted to attend the BQ Scottish Export Awards 2017 at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, sponsored by Scottish Enterprise and HSBC. We were shortlisted finalists for the Micro Exporter of the Year award, up against the best and brightest exporting businesses from across Scotland. Our Managing Director, Malachy Ryan, explains more about the role exporting has played in the growth of Alan White Design in his blog below.
“The BQ Scottish Export Awards showcase the entrepreneurial expertise of Scottish businesses and highlights the importance of exporting in safeguarding their future growth. We were delighted to be included amongst the shortlisted finalists at this esteemed event. We invited along several clients, friends, and associates to celebrate our nomination and enjoy the evening with us.
Team AWD with friends, colleagues, and associates
Much of our early export success grew organically from our wide knowledge base and our capability across a range of engineering disciplines which allowed us to carve a niche for our business within our industry. This approach has exposed us to an array of international clients in a wide variety of industry sectors. We have developed a growing reputation for innovative design and broad scope engineering which is spreading fast throughout the industries we work in.
In recent months, we have received great support from Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to explore our potential to trade in new export markets which will help us refine our export strategy and keep our business growing.
Being rapidly expanding business with a dynamic team of engineers, we offer our clients cross-fertilisation of engineering principles to produce bespoke, one-off designs which we know our clients would not be able to source elsewhere. This holistic approach to temporary works and structural design has become our trademark, associated with quality and professionalism, which is why the judges shortlisted us for this award.
Team AWD and friends enjoying the wonderful Hilton hospitality
It was great to hear from so many other business who have enjoyed similar success in their exporting ventures, and to network with leaders of industry across a wide range of business sectors. We were competing against many outstanding businesses in our awards category where all nominees displayed tremendous amount of innovation and dynamic thinking to be shortlisted in their categories. I even got my 5 minutes of fame up on the big screen, discussing how exporting has had a hugely positive impact on our business!
My big moment!
Although we were not the eventual winners, the evening was highly successful for us, and provided and excellent opportunity for everyone at AWD to celebrate our exporting success to date. I’d like to thank all our friends and supporters who came along to enjoy the evening with us and made the evening a memorable event.”
AWD will continue to forge links in export markets to grow our business and to meet the ever-increasing demand for our services. These types of events are vital to increasing awareness about the benefits of exporting to Scottish businesses and we’ll continue play our part in the coming years. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!
