Forth Road Bridge

AWD was appointed to design an access scaffold for the improvement works on the Forth Road Bridge for our client Taziker Industrial Ltd. The project saw our access scaffold installed on the underdeck of the bridge, to support the upgrading of the steel walkways beneath the north side span of the bridge.

Designed using standard scaffold components, the structure was supported via drop standards from primary box girders and deck supporting steelwork. The structure was also designed to be assembled at height and accessed via a pop-up scaffold which provided a bridge to existing walkways.

Additionally, edge protection was fitted throughout and scaffold boards were used to provide an access platform.

Using 3D modelling, hand calculations and structural analysis using STRAP analysis software, we were able to prove the structural capacity of all members and their performance within the structure, ensuring a safe and functional access solution which matched our client’s requirements and supported the progress of the overall improvement works to the bridge.
