Hunterston Power Station

AWD designed a triple-deck suspended access platform used to install a protective membrane around the reactor building at Hunterston to prevent water ingress during the decommissioning of the nuclear power station.

The bottom deck was composed of a Technitruss modular space frame, designed to conform to the shape of the building. The space frame, upper decks and platform roof were suspended using drop tubes which were supported by winches from rigs stationed on the roof of the platform.

Each section of our platform was assembled at ground level to minimise the requirement to work at height and then quickly and easily lifted into place.

Our space frame access platform design was fully redundant ensuring that it maintained its integrity in the event of the failure of any single structural component.
