MCLH V&A East Collection and Research Centre
Alan White Design were delighted to be appointed as checker of subcontractor temporary works items for a new V&A research centre at Here East in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Hackney, East London.
Here East is an innovation and technology campus and the incredible 172,000sqft facility offers a range of services and amenities.
We reviewed all of the subcontractor design proposals and signed these off on behalf of the main contractor, McLaughlin & Harvey. The designs we reviewed ranged from access scaffolds, loading bay scaffolds, crash decks. We also completed a design directly with MCLH for the temporary propping of a partition wall.
All of our checks were completed in a timely manner to ensure the project remained on programme. We liaised with the main contractor and the sub-contractor’s designers throughout the project. This ensured all checking comments were closed prior to any operatives using the scaffold structures.
For the partition wall propping, we completed a goalpost propping system which supported a cold formed stud partition wall. It was an unusual design to support a non-load bearing stud wall, but it was part of the requirements within the brief and it was a challenge we enjoyed.
Overall, this was a challenging project and one we are very pleased to be able to call a success. The new V&A research centre is architecturally stunning and we’re sure many people will enjoy visiting in future.
